Thoughts on Healing the Hearth

The center of a home is the hearth and the communal fire is the heart of a community. As our society becomes more individualistic, we have lost touch with our heritage and childbirth wisdom. Sanitized by hospital protocols, bereft of the experiential knowledge of our fellow sisters, we labor painfully alone in our highly medicalized version of child labor. To remedy this, we must "Heal the Hearth" by bringing the warmth of a tribal community of women into our homes. Intimately, we educate and care for each other before, during, and after childbirth. The sanctity of women supporting women in motherhood cannot be overstated. When our mothers thrive, our families thrive. When our families thrive, our community thrives.
